Re: Patrick Stewart As Spider Jerusalem
Fri, January 2, 2004 - 5:24 PMHe looks a little too calm to be Spider Jerusalem in that pic - (I think he would make a better Henry Bendix anyways) - for Spider you should consider Kevin McDonald from Kids in the Hall or Rik Mayall from Bottom. -

Re: Patrick Stewart As Spider Jerusalem
Fri, January 2, 2004 - 5:32 PMWow! I've liked his other stuff, but I've never heard any one refer to him as anything else than "Rik Mayall from The Young Ones." Good on you.
This may be from left field, but I think Duke from Doonesbury is the best choice to play Spider. Seriously, though... Why not run auditions and cast an unknown or relative unknown? Worked for the 1st Star Wars movie, Superman and most of the early Coen Brothers flicks.

Re: Patrick Stewart As Spider Jerusalem
Sat, January 3, 2004 - 6:23 AMI'd have called him Rik Mayall from Lord Flasheart fame.
"...the best kisser, the best dancer, the best
fighter, the best everything..."
However, it looks like he's been busier than I'd ever realized:

Re: Patrick Stewart As Spider Jerusalem
Sat, January 3, 2004 - 8:30 AMAh. Your "problem" is you didn't spend enough time getting messed up and watching MTV in the 80s. I'm pretty sure that was my first exposure to Rik Mayall. And Mojo Nixon. And Peter Zaremba/The Fleshtones...
...Hell maybe MTV wasn't all bad.

Re: Patrick Stewart As Spider Jerusalem
Fri, January 2, 2004 - 11:11 PM
Honestly, Patrick Stewart is getting a little old to play Spider, in my humble estimation.
Now, Edward Norton...that'd be a catch. He has the right energy, the mid30s-ish look I'd envisioned for Spider...and as American History X showed us, he looks good without hair.
Of course, shave my goatee and give me the right pair of shades...hee. Hee. Hee.
(A boy can dream, can't he?) -
-
Re: Patrick Stewart As Spider Jerusalem
Fri, January 2, 2004 - 11:22 PMedward norton... also a good choice. I greatly respect his work. -
-
Re: Patrick Stewart As Spider Jerusalem
Mon, January 5, 2004 - 7:00 AMI have a huge respect for Edward Norton as well, but in timely argument here I think he is too YOUNG to play spider. Patrick Stewart, though also an excellent and accomplished thesbian, doesn't really play 'dirty' all that well.
And Spider's filthy.
Which is one reason why i have a huge crush on him, but I digress.
Another actor I could see in the role, if he leaned down a way, would be Ben Kingsley (if we're looking for famous folk). He would not play up to the huge fan reaction you'd get of Edward Norton or Cap'n Piccard, but he really looks the part and he's great at dirty. -
-
Re: Patrick Stewart As Spider Jerusalem
Sat, February 28, 2004 - 12:29 PMyeah thats what i thought as well. The first person i thought about was Ben Kingsley, but he's quite old as well for the role of Spider. He's a great actor though and yeah i can see him getting quite bent and snarling. Alot more than Stewart could. I second your choice.

Re: Patrick Stewart As Spider Jerusalem
Sat, January 3, 2004 - 3:07 PMI enjoy Edward Norton's work too but I'm not so sure Stewart's age will be a detriment.
After all, the role's supposed to be a guy who's devastated by years of hard living and journalism, followed by hermitude in the mountains. A certain look of advanced destruction is required - have you seen pictures of Hunter S. Thompson lately?
Not to mention how a lack of Stewart would mean not seeing Trekkie faces crumple like used tissues when Stewart starts screaming things like "two tugs of a dead dog's cock". Comedy gold. -
-
Re: Patrick Stewart As Spider Jerusalem
Mon, January 5, 2004 - 12:21 PMSo it's settled. The bastard child of Edward Norton and Patrick Stewart shall play Spider. -

-
Re: Patrick Stewart As Spider Jerusalem
Thu, February 26, 2004 - 1:01 PMThe bastard child of Edward Norton and Patrick Stewart would be Christian Slater. Anyone see him in 'Very Bad Things'?
Of course, there's also Gary Oldman to consider, so either one of these two actors could play Spider. They are about the right age and--let's face it--able to pull off a superb "Spider Jerusalem patented tabletop outburst."

Re: Patrick Stewart As Spider Jerusalem
Tue, January 6, 2004 - 3:04 PMEd Norton would be great. He was HARD in American History X. -
-
Re: Patrick Stewart As Spider Jerusalem
Wed, January 7, 2004 - 8:04 AMI would have liked to see how the movie would have turned out if he hadn't taken over the editing, however. -
-
Re: Patrick Stewart As Spider Jerusalem
Wed, January 7, 2004 - 7:52 PMdid he? I didn't know that. I tried watching that movie when I was younger and I couldn't get through it. Now, I'd like to see it again.
anyhow, Ben Kinglsey- good choice.
so many bald-headed actors to choose from, so little time!! -
-
Re: Patrick Stewart As Spider Jerusalem
Thu, January 8, 2004 - 9:59 AMany actor can be bald. A great example is Gene Hackman. Who would have thought of him as Lex Luthor? He was great! He wasn't a bald actor, and for most of the movies he wasn't a bald character, but he was great in the role. -
-

Re: Patrick Stewart As Spider Jerusalem
Thu, January 8, 2004 - 10:08 AMMy favorite thing about the Gene Hackman Lex Luthor was the way he changed wigs every scene in that first movie. That was a nice subtle classy touch, the kind that's lost on most movie makers.

Re: Patrick Stewart As Spider Jerusalem
Thu, January 8, 2004 - 1:14 PMDon't know what everyone's going on about. If they could make Richard Dryfus look in his 20's/30's for Mr. Holland's Opus, they can make Patrick Stewart into the perfect Spider.
Besides, do we really know how old Spider is? No. Never mentioned to my recollection.
Stewart could do it. If he could deliver lines about naughty cakes in the shape of naked women going to the bathroom without cracking up, he can do this.
-
-
Re: Patrick Stewart As Spider Jerusalem
Fri, January 9, 2004 - 11:00 AMI'm sure Patrick could do it, it's just my opinion that he is not the best choice for the role. I didn't think he was the best choice for the role of Xavier in X-Men either, but he still did a great job.
His voice, his mannerism, his look... nothing really screams Spider to me about him except his lack of hair, his build and his age, all of which are entirely maleable in the world of theatrics. He's still a brilliant actor.
-
Re: Patrick Stewart As Spider Jerusalem
Wed, January 14, 2004 - 8:58 PMNot to mention the Scottish therapist and Operation: Pedophile Not.
Pure gold, and I can think of no other I'd rather see jumping on cars, cussing, and beating the hell out of politicians for fun and profit.

Re: Patrick Stewart As Spider Jerusalem
Fri, January 9, 2004 - 11:24 AMYou guys are all fooling yourselves. Patrick Stewart won't be Spider. Neither will Ed (I'm Over-rated) Norton. Here's what's gonna happen:
Somebody is going to slip a copy of Transmet under Kevin Costner's door. He's going to fall in love with it. He'll produce, direct and star in an 8 hour long movie version with a $100 Million budget that no one will like. That way everybody from you to Warren to the Film Studios to Costner can go home disappointed. Hurray! -

I think he'd tear up the role of Spider Jerusalem. -

Re: Patrick Stewart As Spider Jerusalem
Sat, January 31, 2004 - 5:11 AMArgh.
This reminds me of an ongoing article they were doing in Wizard Magazine some years ago;
They'd take a nude picture of some non-model, and photoshopped it to hell, to make it look like Mystique, or Catwoman, or a hat and a pipe.
Excellent. Heh heh heh.
As for my idea about Spider casting: Wizard had an ongoing article about comic movie castings as well, and I always felt uncomfortable reading them 'cause it felt like I was this enormous geek with too much time to think about these things, but not enough brain cells to actually know it was a waste of time to think Jean-Claude Van Damme was ever going to play Gambit in an X-men movie, and now I completely lost track of what I'm trying to explain here.
...
He would be good as Gambit, wouldn't he? -

Re: Patrick Stewart As Spider Jerusalem
Mon, February 9, 2004 - 9:02 PMJust when you thought this thread was dead...it looks like somebody feels Kevin Spacey could do the role: www.comics2film.com/DCG/DispArt.php3 -

Re: Patrick Stewart As Spider Jerusalem
Thu, February 26, 2004 - 1:08 PMKevin Spacey? Now that you mention it, he does seem like a good choice.
So now I have five actors on my list who would be my ideal picks to play Spider:
Christian Slater
Gary Oldman
Tim Roth
Kevin Spacey
Edward Norton -

Re: Patrick Stewart As Spider Jerusalem
Mon, February 16, 2004 - 12:33 PMEver since I saw the Daredevil movie (it was at gunpoint, I swear!) I've been completely convinced that Joe Pantoliano (aka Ralphie from the Sopranos) would be the perfect Spider Jerusalem. He even played a reporter in Daredevil. I actually just think of that movie as one hugely over-budgeted audition for Joe to play Spider.

Re: Patrick Stewart As Spider Jerusalem
Thu, February 26, 2004 - 10:28 AMPatrick Stewart IS Spider Jerusalem. So sad for those who think otherwise, but that's how it is and how it should be. -

Re: Patrick Stewart As Spider Jerusalem
Thu, February 26, 2004 - 10:46 PMi guess i'm getting used to the idea of patrick stewart as spider. but (no flames, please) after careful stoned consideration, i would prefer robin williams and/or woody harrelson. in fact, they could trade off during the movie. spider always looks different on paper, why not on celluloid? -

Henry Rollins As Spider Jerusalem
Wed, March 3, 2004 - 9:10 AMI'd love to hear him do Spider. He could shave his head and the occasional topless-in-black-boxer-brief scenes would be great. Pity he has the wrong tattoos...
And of course Flea and Tom Waits would have cameos... -
-
Re: Henry Rollins As Spider Jerusalem
Tue, August 31, 2004 - 11:47 AMI'll third (or fourth?) Ben Kingsley. He has a nice round head. Spider need a nice round head.

Tue, August 31, 2004 - 11:53 AMMy choice would be me.
-
Re: Patrick Stewart As Spider Jerusalem
Tue, August 31, 2004 - 2:28 PMFor some reason I can't see the picture. It's a signal that Patrick cannot play as Spider. He's too old ( I tought of him in his 40`s... 45's at best) and mostly... he's so goddam clean I can't even imagine him doing one of the things that Spider do. At least not sober...
I go for Ben Kingsley. He is the man.

Re: Patrick Stewart As Spider Jerusalem
Wed, September 1, 2004 - 3:40 AMBut then Spider's a dirty old man, isn't he?
I can picture Ben Kingsley jumping on top of tables ranting about journalists with improbable penises and shatting himself in the process. Or dressed like Jesus Christ shouting "Stop for the son of God!". It's Ghandi on crack. And we know he can do Ghandi...
